Closet Dividers

I am soon to reach 3,000 sales and I'd like to say that I've learned a lot during the past 2 years.  As the name of my business indicates, my original idea was to sell hand knitted items.  I have a love for so many crafty things and when I stumbled upon the idea to make closet dividers, I had no idea how well they would go over.  At this point, I may need to consider changing my company's name. LOL.

Initially, I made the designs on my computer and then outsourced  printing with either FedEx or Office Depot.  At that time, I was cutting the designs by hand , but I now have an electronic cutter...boy am I grateful for technology!!

For over two years, I have purchased my label paper from  Online Labels.com.  The company sells a variety of colors and styles.  The paper quality is excellent.  It takes ink superbly well.  Best of all, the price is great. There is no minimum quantity,  and you are allowed request free samples.  The people who work there have always been very kind and helpful.  They have (in me) a customer for life!  I highly recommend this company for both business and personal needs.

Anyway, at the first of the year, it's good to reflect and see just how far you've come.  How good God has been.  I am grateful.  Thank you to all of my customers.  Just so you know...I'm still knitting. :-)

Have a teriffic Thursday.

New Year, Resolutions, and a Give-Away

So many of us begin the new year with thoughts of how to do things better than the year before.  Sometimes it is just a time to renew some of the previous years' resolutions.  I have never been in the habit of making resolutions per say, but I begin the new year with much anticipation.  I anticipate that I will be a better person that I was last year...more loving, more kind, more forgiving.  All of the attributes that should be associated with a Christian.  And so, I put my best foot forward.

I tell many of the young ladies that are around me "If a task looks too big, just break it down.  Deal with the now of it.  The next hour of it.  After a while, you look up and a whole day has gone by and you were doing that thing that seemed insurmountable.  The day becomes a week, a week becomes a month, then a year has gone by.  That is how I deal with life.  I never look too far into the future.  "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:34)

Speaking of resolutions...A customer ordered an array of colored closet dividers.  She organizes her closets by color.  I think that is a very good idea.  I organize my closet by the type of clothing.  Short sleeved, long sleeved, etc....  How do you organize your closet?    Seems like a good time for a give-away.  On Sunday I received my ONE THOUSANDTH sale on Etsy.  So let's celebrate!

The winner (only residents of the U.S. and Canda, please)  will receive 10 closet dividers.  To enter, please go to my Etsy shop and add me to your favorites.  An additional entry will be made when you like me on facebook.  Make sure to leave your contact information.  Also, an additonal entry will be made when you tell me how you organize your closet. (by style, by seasons, by colors, etc...)   GOOD LUCK!!  The winner will be announced next Monday, January 23, 2012.

Thing 2 and Thing 3

All baby shower gifts were completed in time and given at the prospective showers.  A dear friend and repeat customer, Kari ordered this set in size 6 months.  We can't wait to see little Daniel in it.

Daniel's nursery theme is Jungle Babies.   I made a set of dividers to match as well as a couple of tags for his diaper bag and stroller, or whatever his mom chooses.

I have had this giraffe for probably 4 years with the intention of some type of baby gift.  I sewed twill tape to it and printed the card so that it could be used as a door hanging.  The card was slipping all around, so I put tape on the back of it.

Well, that's it for now.  Much more knitting to do.  Many other things too.  Ha--that rhymed!  Have a marvelous Monday!

Giveaway Contest

I wanted to do something fun and different for this giveaway. So, rather than use Random.Org this time there is a contest involved and potential winners are also being referred from GiveawayScout.com. I mentioned a few posts back that I have cut by hand hundreds of circles. I've done the cutting, now you do the guessing. How many circles would you say are shown in the following picture?:

The person who comes closest without going over will win a choice of the following:

1) Taylor Custom Closet Divider Set (unisex)--OR,

2) For my knitting buds, a knitting project bag. For non-knitters a functional bag for whatever you care to use it for. OR,

3) Your choice of some yummy 100% merino hand dyed sock yarn. The yarn has a very tight twist, is soft, and is a delight to work with! Yarn #1 is perfect for the upcoming fall, it is red, yellow, orange, and brown variegated. I call it Fall Foliage. Yarn #2 is turquoise and the lightest shades of green. I call it Ocean Water. Yarn #3 is varied shades of lime. I call it Iceberg Lettuce.
(The colors are more vibrant than they appear here)

All that is needed is a comment giving your guess, what you would like to win, the dividers, the bag, or your choice of the three yarns. If you would like to win the yarn, just put..yarn #1, Yarn #2, etc... Only one choice of yarn is to be won, so pick your fav!!
As always, additional entries will be given for:
1)Those who follow this blog. You must put an additional entry stating that you follow, even if you've been following prior to this post.
2) If you mention the giveaway on your blog.
3) If you mention the giveaway on Facebook, or Twitter.
4) If you put my blog button on your blog.
That gives you the opportunity for 5 entries!! In the event that two or more have guessed the same number of cirlcles, Random.Org will be used to pick the ultimate winner. Winner will be chosen and announced next Monday, September 6, 2010. Have fun and may the best guess win ;-0

Is This A Knitting Blog?

For those of you who have wondered...this is a knitting blog--for the most part anyway. I do so enjoy knitting, but I have had to expand my business and who would have thunk it? Closet dividers. Closet dividers have taken over. I'm not complaining 'cause I enjoy designing them, not to mention the tremendous increase in sales. Occassionally, I do get orders for knit items though. An Etsy customer requested this hat for her 2 year old son. This is my first second hat made for a toddler. The first one is still on the needles. I had to make a second trip to my LYS and get more yarn and start over since I was just about the close the first hat that turned out to be way too small. It will fit a 1 year old and I guess I will list it on Etsy eventually.

I have cut hundreds of circles by hand and the following picure is a small showing of the fruit of my labor. It is very gratifying the get to this part of the process--packaging and mailing. Whew!

I have a "gang-bang" amount of yarn for baby stuff. I've never put it up on Ravelry because, honestly, I don't have time. Somehow, I will figure out how to incorporate a little knitting into my day--some personal knitting, e.g. my monkey socks which I love, --some business knitting. The boutique that will be selling my closet dividers, if I can ever finish cutting and get them to them, has also asked for baby hats and booties. This is just what I've waited for, and alas, I don't have time to knit them. Sigh. It is about to get better because I have a Cricut ordered and on it's way to my house. Yay!!
I'm trying to think of something fun for the upcoming contest. I plan to post the giveaway contest details on Monday! Have a happy, happy day!!!

A Tisket, A Tasket...

...how about a matching basket! This set will be listed in my Etsy shop today. As I often say, it will make a great baby shower gift. The basket is made entirely of fabric. It is foldable, and washable. It seems to me that someone may want to "tie" things together in the baby/child's room and this basket could be placed on the changing table and filled with diapers, or the dresser filled with toys, or sit on the closet shelf filled with whatever one wants.

It took longer than it should have to figure how to make this little basket. I started with a sample basket last night and it went well, but I did not make a liner for it, which is where my trouble started. Not with the sewing of the liner, that part was easy, but putting the bags together caused some confusion. I had to sew and re-sew, but I' m glad that my fabric held up to pulling out all of those stitches.

I'm right at the end of another little baby hat that is dark pink and black. It will also have a bill and I think that I will embellish a onesie to match. All for Etsy, of course. Local business is booming and while it keeps me from blog posting as much as I'd like, I am grateful for the work.

I cannot even find my two-at-some-of-the-time socks 'cause I've put them away so well. I hope to find them and finish them soon.

Have a great weekend!!
