Two Inches Inches Forward and Five Back

It was not a good idea to begin the short-row heel immediately after completing the last pattern row at the back of the leg. I kept telling myself, "it's okay....it will be okay....just keep going. And so I did keep going. I am about two inches from beginning the toe decreases and I cannot go any further as it is. The patterned part of the leg is down into the shoe. It is not comfortable and it won't work.

I am about to take it all the way back to the leg and knit some more before the heel. If you are going to do a thing, do it right. That is my motto. Anyway, I will be happier with the socks and actually wear them.

The Beginnings of New Socks

The temptation to use this yarn was too great and I succombed to the girlie loveliness of it. (There is also one for the Etsy store all ready to go). I began writing and knitting this sock simultaneously last night and I am really liking the pattern so far. It seems that I am finally out of the trial and error stage and can just settle into the knitting.

My socktoberfest socks have been put on the back burner. The simplicity of the pattern hasn't been able to hold my attention long enough for me want to finish them. Perhaps once Old Man Winter makes his appearance, I will feel the motivation.

My knitting has turned towards personal and enjoyable. I have so many things intended for Etsy just sitting here already that I decided to take a little break this week from "work" knitting.
I am thinking of having a big sale in my Etsy store soon. There is no sense and having the things sitting around here forever.

Christmas yarn

In keeping with the crafty Christmas theme of the last few days, this yarn from the last dye session, is red, green, and pink. It is my all time favorite and will be used to make some Christmas socks. I have been looking through this old book that I purchased from the library for stitch patterns and will design something for these myself.

I like the way that it is patterned when knit. I will still need to do some tweaking on the dye processes. Can't tell if I want a slight variegation, or stripes, or what. I do love this yarn and I'm looking forward to seeing it in a finished pair of socks.

Girl Socks

I would say that I ( like most knitters) really enjoy knitting socks. They are a quick and satisfying project. I have made socks for every member of my household. Another thing that I enjoy immensely is dyeing yarn. The purple socks were knit with yarn that I dyed. I was going to dye the yarn three colors, but my pot started to leak and I had to throw it all in. Hence, the lighter purple. The pattern was my own. It's just a simple baby cable repeat all the way around and down the foot.

The other socks were knit for my youngest daughter with Lion Brand Magic Stripes. This one has a short row heel . I like it, but I think I need to practice this heel more.

The pattern is Lacy Mock Cable Socks. I completed the first sock and we realized that she is allergic to wool. I will eventually finish them and give them as a gift.

While out and about this morning, I noticed how unseasonably cool it is in OKC and started thinking about socks. I'm going to look through my stash and contemplate round two for family socks. This, however, will take second place to my mother's socks. I will finish them in time for her birthday. I will!

Knitting Project Bags

Yesterday I decided to go ahead and cut the pieces for the knitting project bags. I cut pieces for three bags. One bag has already been promised to a young lady from my church. She was the first person that I taught to knit who stayed with it. I am currently teaching her how to make socks, and as somewhat of an incentive, I told her that I would make her a sock project bag for her birthday.

I won't be posting again until Monday. Have a Happy Fouth of July weekend.

Got Labels?

Nope. I've got to sew labels into every one of these pair of pants. I guess I will rent a movie and settle down in my big comfy chair with the big ol' ottoman and get busy. This picture was taken on that ottoman, it's one of my favorite spots in the house.

I started this pair of socks for my mother for Christmas last year and didn't finish them. Her birthday is in September and so I plan to give them to her then. I love magic loop knitting. As you can see, I am working on both socks to avoid the plague of the second sock syndrome. I will gleefully finish both socks at about the same time.
