Heads and Toes

This is really just a checkin' in kind of post.  A few weeks ago, I made this hat at a customer's request.  I enjoy making this type of hat so much that I sat down one day and started three.  That is the beauty of crochet, you can just pull up the loop and put it away without the hook.  The hat crowns will be good for car rides, appointments, etc...

This hat and bootie set below was made for a doctor expecting her first child.  It was a hit at the baby shower and it always makes me happy to hear that.  The booties are so labor intensive that I keep telling myself that I won't keep making them, but the finished product makes it worthwhile.

Can't Leave the Girls Out

I have a "thing" for pink and brown. It makes me happy. I also like pink and black...er, uh pink and green, hmmm let's see...pink and yellow. Maybe it's just the pink. I like pink and I like this little baby hat. I decided to attach a pompom to this one. It has not been permanantly attached because I'm not sure if I like the braided cord. I may try and i-cord and see which I like better.

This next picture is my favorite view of the hat. Stripes during decreases are so fun--to look at anyway--not SO much fun to execute, but it's worth it in the end.

I have an order for baby hats and booties for the boutique that is selling my closet dividers. I have been ordering lots of yarn and I am now ready to begin the knitting. I'll show pics as I go. Have a fun and safe weekend everyone!

Put A Fork In It...Cause It's Done

I've finished the hat and just wanted to further share some things that I've learned:

First of all, NEVER eat chocolate chip cookies while knitting.

Secondly, when working the jogless stripe method, it's a good idea to work your increase rounds on non-color change rounds. Working them on the same rounds reminded me of this thing that we used to do as kids...pat your head and rub your belly. Too much for the brain!

Thirdly, changing colors and wrapping yarn does not look so good when purling (see the strange sort of gappy purled area)

Last of all, the best thing that I learned was that a marker is not necessary at all in the process. You are able to identify when to next change colors by placement of the last color change. One day, I will do my own tutorial with pictures and you will see how totally easy it is.

Lil' Elf Hat

This little hat has been fun to knit. I am writing the pattern as I go and I really like how it is turning out. Today I decided that I will make socks to be worn with this hat and market it to newborns (or rather their parents or friends :-) ) I am using Tahki Cotton Classic yarn which is one of my all time favorites. It shows such good stitch definition and is kind to babies due to the fact that it is 100% cotton. It's also thick enough to provide warmth.

This particular hat is very small. I have placed it over a decorative crystal egg that has the circumference of only 12". If I don't decide to frog it, it will be intended for a preemie baby.

I also worked on my sock last night and I am just about to begin the short-row heel. I plan to get that done today and will show it tomorrow.

I will be hosting a give-away sometime very soon. I'm trying to decide what to give away. I'm not sure if it will be yarn, or a project bag, or a baby item. At some point I will have done all three. It's fun to get free things! Keep looking out for it.

Christmas Combo

These little shoes have been sitting on hold for quite a while and I finally got the notion to sew them together yesterday. Today I started a little hat to match that will probably be elf style. Maybe I will list it on Etsy tomorrow or Friday. After I finish this, my plan is to do some sewing.

I am near the heel on my Socktoberfest sock and I will post a picture of it once It is done. I will make a short-row heel. I was able to see what I was doing wrong on the textured part of the sock and it has been corrected.

I will be ordering more sock yarn base next week and I'm anxious to get more dyeing done. I'm reading over my post now and noticing how I tend to write in short concise sentences. I used to work at the Medicare office where we had to correspond on an Eighth grade level with short sentences. I am such a creature of habit.
